Hailing from Morar, Inverness-shire, Carol Kirkwood is a Scottish journalist and weather presenter currently working at BBC. She has been at BBC since 1998. She was trained by the Met Office before joining the news station. At BBC, she presents the BBC Breakfast program.

She also hosts the Victoria Derbyshire shows. Aside from presenting news, she took part in the 13th series of Strictly Come Dancing airing on BBC One.  Kirkwood was partnered with Pasha Kovalev a professional dancer.  She placed at position 10.

After graduating from Napier College of Commerce and Technology Kirkwood began working for the BBC’s secretarial reserve in London. She would later start presenting short programs on BBC Radio Scotland. After some time, she moved to BBC Radio 2 and later BBC Radio 4. Kirkwood resigned from BBC after her wedding and started working in recruitment.

She later got a job as a training consultant for a management consultancy based in Cheshire. For a brief period, Kirkwood co-worked with Sacha Baron Cohen at Wire TV. She returned to the BBC in 1993 to serve as a freelance presenter at the Elstree Studios training division. She hosted the TV show Talking Issues on HTV West while she was still employed at the Corporations Elstree Studios.

In 1996, Kirkwood joined the UK operation of The Weather Channel. It closed down and she had to go back to train with Met Office. She officially joined BBC in 1998.  She has appeared in various TV and radio programs including; BBC News at Six, and BBC World News. Carol, among other BBC presenters, covered the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

In 2012, the BBC Breakfast show was moved from London to MediaCityUK in Salford. Kirkwood as the main weather presenter did not move but presented the weather news through a video link. She has presented weather and contributed on various shows like; BBC’s The Weather Show, The One Show, and BBC Radio 2’s The Chris Evans Breakfast Show.

Kirkwood received an Honorary Fellowship from Princess Anne on November 17, 2015. She won the TRIC award for best TV Weather Presenter in 2003, 2008, 2009, and 2012.
